I started trying to make money online in May—just four months ago.
And I’m going to be completely open about my experience.
I’m not trying to make thousands of dollars a month. If I could build something that consistently brought in a few hundred dollars a month, I would consider that a great start.
But figuring out how to do that has definitely been a learning experience!
My First Attempt: Etsy
The first thing I tried was creating birthday party invitations with an America’s 250th theme and selling them on Etsy.
The result?
Not one buyer.
Not exactly the start I had hoped for! But I learned that simply creating a product and putting it online doesn’t mean people are going to find it—or buy it.
Then I Tried Creating My Own Digital Product
Next, I wrote an eBook, created a website, and started an Instagram account to promote it.
I reached 34 followers and received a few likes, but no one bought the book.
Another lesson learned.
Maybe it was the topic. Maybe I hadn’t found the right audience. Maybe I didn’t know enough about marketing yet.
Whatever the reason, I knew I had more to learn.
So I Started Learning
Next, I purchased a course that helped me define my niche and taught me about building a sales page and funnels.
I found it very helpful, and if you’d like to see the program I used, you can find it here:

I also purchased a course to help me understand Instagram, create better posts, and learn how to attract followers.
I’m still working my way through that one!
Then I Discovered Affiliate Marketing
Eventually, I came across ClickBank and started looking into affiliate marketing.
That’s when I discovered John Thornhill and the ClickBank Profit Club.
I found free training and courses that are helping me better understand how affiliate marketing works, and I’m now working through the material step-by-step. Click the link on the right.
And that’s where I am today.
I’m still learning.
I’m still experimenting.
And I’m definitely still a beginner.
But there’s one big difference between where I started four months ago and where I am today:
I’m beginning to understand that making money online isn’t about trying everything at once. It’s about learning the basics, choosing a direction, and sticking with it long enough to see what happens.
I’m going to keep documenting what I try, what works, what doesn’t, and what I learn along the way.
If you’re also trying to figure out how to earn a little extra income online, follow along.
Maybe we can learn how to do this together.
